So, I’m recording this…

So, I’m recording this on Jott.com and it automatically posts to my blog. How cool is that? listen

Dinner Dance Visitors

JHP Logo 2If you picked up one of my business cards at the St Joes Dinner Dance and are checking out the web site, welcome! I hope you enjoyed the DVD presentation at the dance. If you’re in need of video services, please consider me.

What sort of things can I do? I can take photos (digital or older print pictures) and put them on a DVD, complete with music, menus, and even a pretty label on the disk itself!

Have a ton of home movies and don’t have the time or knowledge to do anything with it all? I can take that raw footage, edit it down (removing the shots of your foot as you kept taping while moving to a different angle!) even lay a soundtrack over anything not too exciting to the ear (quiet baby footage, noisy crowd sounds while recording your kid’s big game, etc.). And finally create menus for scene selection and easy DVD navigation so you won’t have to go hunting for that particular moment to show the out of town relatives.

Got a big presentation at work that would be enhanced by a video presentation but don’t have the time or know-how to put something together from stock video footage? I can help.

Have things on VHS tape that you don’t want to lose? I can transfer them to DVD for you (and even edit it, add menus, etc.).

Want to give a highly personalized, unique and meaningful gift?
If any of these or related situations apply to you, email me at dvd@jerryharrington.net. I’d be happy to schedule a free consultation appointment to discuss your project. Thanks for considering me for all your digital media needs.

getting ready…

so, I’ve accepted the fact that I am not a blogger and am very excited about the prospect of (finally) podcasting!  I now have the microphone, the pop filter, the mixer, the free software (probably soon to be replaced by Castblaster!), and everything’s actually plugged in together and recording!  I’m getting the pieces together (new URL, blog design, logo, theme music, etc.) and hope to launch within a month or so.  Wish me luck!  I’ll post all the news here when things begin going live.

rejecting the pressure

So I’ve realized that I’ve been having “blogger guilt” for having a blog that I don’t add to every day, or anywhere near every day! And yet I’m reminding myself that since they are MY blogs (since I do have another one at www.livethelongrun.com) I shouldn’t feel anything but freedom to decide how and when to use them. So I’ve decided to do things a little differently.

First, I’m going to start scheduling: a post a week. At a previous parish I would write an article a week for the parish bulletin. I found great satisfaction in the writing and actually got the writing done because of the weekly deadline.

Second, the freedom of time between posts will give me an opportunity to write drafts and think about what I want to post. I think for Brain Unclenching I want to focus on parenting and some of my reflections thereupon.

So that’s my plan in general. Now I have to decide what day will be publication day! As I’ll want to balance publication day on this blog with my other blog, I’m going to have to give it some thought.

nothing better

Would anyone dare to disagree with me that nap-warm kid cheeks are the best things ever?

pondering the creative process

So we recently had our second parish confirmation retreat, led by yours truly. I think it went quite well. I’m beginning to distill the central messages and get the vocabulary that get my points across.

I’ve noticed that this process has happened more than once in the past few years that I’ve been working in parish ministry. And that leads me to reflection on the creative process. I’m fascinated by the fact that I come up with presentation outlines, choose materials that support it, and then present it once or twice to only then identify the core message or key phrases that capture the central idea I most want to convey.

I don’t know where I was goon with this but thought I’d throw it out there.

habits & difficulties

So tonight I had this major yen for chocolate. And yet we’re trying to get back on track with weight loss and Weight Watchers and not eating everything that we want. So, the funny thing is that by taking out my iPod Touch, jumping on my WiFi network, and checking my email, I found the message from our Weight Watchers leader that reminded me what’s really important. Thanks iPod Touch! Who says tech only facilitates distraction and escape? Tonight it brought me back to reality and helped me break out of a bad habit (at least for tonight!).

why CBS why?

Why isn’t “Ugly Betty” on Amazon unbox? We just finished season 1 on DVD and would really like to catch up on season 2 and would pay for it but it’s unavailable on Amazon’s unbox which transfers directly to my Tivo. Tomorrow I’ll check iTunes, but can’t imagine why they’d sell it there and not Amazon. Anyone know how to get iTunes video onto a Tivo?

up too late

My 4 month old is fighting off a cold so I’m up @ midnight again. It’s rather difficult to start taking better care of yourself when you know the step in that process would be more sleep but parental responsibilities get in the way of that. Being a grown up can be hard!

Julie suggested we take turns sleeping. I suppose a part of taking care of yourself is letting others take care of you sometimes. Now I just need the humility and surrender to accept it.

Wish me luck. And I’ll offer the same for you. Goodnight.

why do we do what we shouldn’t

Age old question: when I know I should go to bed, why am I watching Tivo?
